Day Trip to Barmouth Beach
We’re on holiday in Wales this week and having a lovely time including a day trip to Barmouth Beach! We’ve come away with my parents too and it’s our first family holiday since becoming a family of 4. In fact, it’s the first holiday I’ve been on with my parents in many years.
We used to come to Wales every year when I was a child and we loved it. Not too far to travel and so much to do – plus the novelty of not having to travel far to be in a completely different country. I took that for granted before I moved to Australia but really missed it while I lived there. Don’t get me wrong, Australia is wonderful but I do miss the accessibility to other countries as flights are so expensive now.
Miss M has been to the beach many times but not since she was a lot younger so has no real memories of it so she was very excited to visit Barmouth beach.
Barmouth is in Gwynedd, North-West Wales and is so pretty. We drove first thing and parked up in the main carpark on the sea front and went for a long walk along the front. I worried that the weather wouldn’t be great for our week in Wales but it was a lovely, sunny day – it even got up to 20 degrees which is wonderful for June.
Barmouth is so pretty and quirky. It’s our first time here and I loved exploring the little lanes and shops. There are so many cafes and lovely places to grab a drink or an ice cream. I’m making the most of that before my post partum diet begins!
We walked for a couple of miles along the beach until Miss M spotted the donkeys so Mr M took her down to ‘meet’ them while I continued walking with Mini – hoping the beach air might encourage him to sleep a little more at night.
Luckily she didn’t ask to go for a ride on the donkeys! Actually, one of my earliest memories as a child was being put on a donkey at Blackpool beach and it running off with me – I’ll never forget the terror I felt – even if it was only for a few seconds.
We had a lovely day at Barmouth and as we’re staying nearby, we’ll definitely come back. Well I need to sample some of the ice cream like a true tourist!
Can you recommend anywhere else nearby in North Wales we should visit while we’re here?
