Novotel Darling Harbour
Last weekend we headed to Sydney for an action packed mini break! We stayed at the Novotel Darling Harbour on Friday night and it was the best hotel stay we’ve had in a long time!
The reason for our trip to Sydney was because QV Skincare had very kindly invited me to be their guest at the McGrath Foundation High Tea on Friday.
I’m a regular supporter of the McGrath Foundation but had never attended one of their high teas before and it was amazing! The room was packed with supporters of the breast cancer cause, raising money for more McGrath nurses to help women like me who have a Breast Cancer diagnosis.
On our table was Olympic Swimmer, Belinda Hocking, and Kate Ritchie who I’ve been a fan of since her days in Home and Away. Was anyone else addicted to Home and Away like me?
Both were just so lovely and we had a great time chatting – thank you so so much to the amazing QV Skincare team for inviting me and looking after me so well.
Now, on the subject of being looked after, we stayed at the Novotel Darling Harbour on Friday night and oh my word, they really looked after us well!
We had already parked at the hotel before the high tea and got a space in the hotel car park immediately. There is a Wilson Car Park next door though in case it’s ever full at the hotel.
When we arrived to check in, I got chatting to the Hotel Manager (a fellow Brit!) and Junior Manager who asked me all about the high tea and what we were up to in Sydney. They told me that if we needed anything when we were there to let them know.
Which I would have done, had everything not already been perfect :)
We stayed in a Twin room that overlooked the harbour and I think I’d forgotten a bit just how gorgeous Darling Harbour is.
The room was huge with 2 Queen beds – one for us and one for Miss to sleep in and plenty of room for Mini’s travel cot. The beds were well made with crisp white cotton bedding. If I have one slight comment, our mattress was really soft and I prefer firm mattresses. I suppose you can hardly please everyone though and it definitely didn’t affect my sleep.
The bathroom was huge and brightly lit with a bath and shower over it, lots of lovely fair trade toiletries to try and big fluffy towels!
After we’d checked in and dropped our bags in the room, we headed out for a walk along the Harbour and it was such a lovely sunny day.
Harbourside shopping centre is right in front of the Novotel Darling Harbour so we popped in to pick up some things we needed – including a big bag of treats from the British Lolly Shop to take back with us. I do miss UK chocolate!
It was a bit of a mistake really as when we got back to the room, we were treated to this huge lolly buffet!! Miss M and Mini were so excited about their Ice Age toys too – how lovely!
For dinner we headed into Darling Harbour to meet a friend although the bar and Ternary restaurant at the hotel looked so temping! Our room had a buffet breakfast included and we were looking forward to that the next day – Mr M particularly :)
We went to an Italian restaurant, Olivo’s for dinner as they had a deal where it was $35 for 2 courses and a glass of wine. That was soon followed up by another bottle as I caught up with my friend!
Mr M headed back to the room with the kids and me and my friend popped up to the Hard Rock Cafe for cocktails…and as most of my nights out end up, we finished up at karaoke!
When I woke up on Saturday morning, after getting in at 2.30am, it wasn’t only Mr M looking forward to a big breakfast – I definitely was too.
There was a queue to be seated when we got there but the waiter seated everyone in super fast time and a high chair was found very quickly for us. We took it in turns to head up and choose something to eat while the other one stayed with the kids.
Oh my word – there was so much choice for breakfast! Literally every breakfast item you could possibly imagine was on offer, separated into little areas to visit.
So it wasn’t just one turn to choose food, it was many turns! Cooked full breakfast, toast, pastries, fruit, yogurt, cereal – everything! In fact just looking at these photos of the buffet again now is making me homesick to return there again soon!
The view of Darling Harbour as we ate breakfast was just as amazing as from our hotel room and there were tables outside if you chose to eat there.
We were served really quickly and as soon as we finished one plate of breakfasty loveliness, our empty plates were whisked away and new cutlery left. See really I think they wanted us to keep eating too!
Next up was a catch up with my lovely mums group friends so we had to drag ourselves away and check out.
The staff at reception, as they had been when we checked in, were so attentive and lovely. They checked that every single part of our stay had been good and it really had.
In fact, the weekend was so busy and after the 2 hour car journey, staying at the Novotel was like a lovely big welcoming cuddle!
If you’re looking for a hotel to stay in Sydney, the Novotel Darling Harbour is perfect for families and business trips and the central location means that the CBD and tourist activities are right on the doorstep.
We would absolutely stay at the hotel again in the future and definitely recommend you check it out.
Disclosure: the Novotel Darling Harbour kindly invited us to stay in exchange for our honest review.
