The Christmas Tag – All I Want For Christmas Is…

I love a good tag so thanks to beautiful Kate from The Less-Refined Mind for tagging me in The Christmas Tag!

It’s 16 questions on the subject of…you guessed it…Christmas! Here goes the Christmas Tag.

PS this post also includes some Christmassy pics from my home – including a gorgeous Sun Dial Cushion sent to me to review from Southbound – how pretty is it!

My Christmas Tag

1. What’s your favourite Christmas movie?

It’s more about Christmas telly in general for me, rather than a movie. I love all the Christmas specials and period dramas – I really miss UK TV especially for that. Thank goodness for Foxtel.

Oh, when I was a kid it was The Goonies and Flight of the Navigator! Not Christmas movies but they always pulled them out around then.

2. Have you ever had a White Christmas?

YES! Most of my Christmasses, in the UK where I’m from, were white ones. Sometimes it only snowed on Christmas Day – how magical is that? Christmas in Australia is entirely different as it’s the height of summer here. I always secretly keep my fingers crossed for a crappy weather day so it feels a bit more like home :)

3. Where do you usually spend your holiday?

We alternate each year between my family, my inlaws and our friends. Being a Brit in Aus, I know a lot of “Christmas orphans” and there’s always something fun happening.

4. What’s your favourite Christmas song?

Did the post title give it away? It HAS to be Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas”. I play it pretty much all year round – total crowd-pleaser.

I also love Slade, The Darkness and Wizzards’ Christmas classics.

5. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

Yes, always one – have done since I was a kid and it’s something our family does now too. Just something small to keep us going until the excitement of the next day.

6. Can you name all of Santa’s Reindeers?

Um, Rudolph, Dancer, Prancer, Blitzen. Nah.

7. What holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?

Pigs in blankets – kidding (not kidding)! Just spending time with the fam really. We usually go to the Hunter Valley Gardens Christmas Lights Spectacular but I don’t think we’ll have time this year sadly.

8. Is your Christmas Tree real or fake?

It’s an artificial one – it’s only a few feet high – we really need a bigger one next year! Real trees are beautiful but just not particularly practical with little kids. Plus, who can be bothered vacuuming every day? (Not me.)

9. What’s your favourite holiday treat/food/sweet?

Everything about Christmas dinner – I’d eat that every night if I could. With the added bonus of Yorkshire Puddings. Because…Yorkshire Puddings!

Actually not everything though – mince pies and Christmas Pudding are disgustingly wrong.

10. Be honest, do you prefer the giving or receiving of gifts?

Oh a bit of both. But there’s always a bit of panic when I open gifts from my husband as sometimes he misses the mark! Not that I’m not grateful of course – he just sometimes needs a little guidance :)

I love buying and giving gifts to others – the kids especially. I can’t wait to see their little faces this year!!

11. What’s the best Christmas present you ever received?

That my parents had booked their flights to emigrate to Australia! It was just after I was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago and hearing that news cheered me up no end.

12. What’s your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

I would love love love to visit New York at Christmas time – it looks so pretty and magical. I think I could even bear the cold for it.

I’ve never been to NY and it’s on the top of my bucket list – one day…one day!

13. Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?

Oh a pro – well in that I love to wrap gifts. I keep them simple though, nothing extravagant. This year it’s mint wrapping paper (surprise, surprise) with stars on from Adairs. So pretty!

14. Most memorable Christmas memory?

I remember my dad telling me that, as we didn’t have a chimney, Santa had to take a magic pill to make him teeny enough to fit under our front door. From then on I watched that door like a hawk – he must have been super teeny as I didn’t spot him!

I also have very happy memories of snowball fights and sledging – I hate the cold and the snow but somehow Christmas makes it so much more fun!

15. What made you realise the truth about Santa?

What are you suggesting? I don’t understand the question.

16. What makes the holidays special for you?

Precious quality time with my family and friends and seeing the magic of Christmas all over again through my children’s wide eyes.

Thanks for tagging me Kate! I am now tagging the below – but it’s an open tag so if you want to play along, I tag you too!

A white Christmas would be lovely. I’ve never even seen snow! As you probably would have guessed it’s all about the food with me. Oh, and family of course. And at least Mr M tries, I’ve given up with my M and buy myself something!

Thanks for the tag! Have a wonderful Christmas and even better 2018 filled with health and happiness xoxo
