25 Weeks Pregnant

Another week gone – and I’m now 25 weeks pregnant.  I’m very excited that I only have 15 weeks to go.

That said, I’m also starting to feel just a teeny bit petrified!

Sleep has been an issue for me this week and I know that when Mini arrives, the sleep deprivation can only get worse.  A lot worse.  I’m struggling with 4 things – firstly that PGP (pelvic girdle pain) has reared it’s ugly head and starting to make me ache a lot when I’m turning over in bed or getting up when I’ve been sitting down for a while.  I’m grateful at least though that it’s only started happening now as I had it from about week 6 with Miss M’s pregnancy.

Secondly, and oh my word this is horrible, the itching will not stop!  I’m seeing my midwife next week just to check it’s nothing sinister and I don’t think it is but the skin on my bump, hips, back and sides is sooooo itchy as soon as I get into bed.  It’s like clockwork!

I think it’s the stretching and I’m applying my stretch mark oil (as often as I have the time to) and drinking as much water as I can but it’s awful.  In fact it probably adds at least an hour on to my insomnia every night before I finally collapse into sleep.  If anyone has any suggestions for stopping the itching, I’d really appreciate it.  All clear so far on Stretch Mark Watch but I’m expecting a showing soon.

Thirdly Mini has decided it would be fun to use my bladder as a punch bag.  Well let me tell you Miss/Mr Mini, mummy is NOT impressed.  I didn’t have this issue last time but wow-wee it’s painful!  Coupled with having to go to the loo 3 times in 10 minutes one night, I hope Mini gets bored of it soon and stops.  Yes, THREE times in TEN minutes.

Lastly, my mind is so full and just will not stop racing when I’m lying in bed.  Only thing is it’s full of nothing in particular.  I remember this last time round though and I think it’s down to the anxiety of being pregnant, wondering what it will be like when the baby arrives, worrying that I’m not organised enough etc.  So I don’t think there’s much I can do about that except try and relax.

Otherwise it’s been a good pregnancy week all-in-all and I’ve also had a chance to focus on what I love about being pregnant.  I’m having a bit of a rethink about the food I’m eating too as I over-indulged a lot at Christmas and need to behave myself now.  I know I’m not supposed to diet (and I’m rubbish at dieting anyway) so I’m just trying to limit the treats and eat more fruit and veg.  Very old school.

    I had terrible itching all around my middle when I was pregnant. The only thing that fixed it was a porridge bath! You put some oats in a flannel and use them like a tea bag in the bath, or even to wash with like a sponge. Aveeno is made with oats too I think so that might work.

    Hope the itching can be resolved. Have you tried putting your cream in the fridge so it’s super cool to put on before bed?

    Congratulations, your last trimester! How exciting! I had PGP with number two and it was agony, I had to keep going to the physio and she would pop my spine back in again, which felt amazing, then I’d go home and play with my other boy and pop it back out again. Don’t worry about the itching, I’m sure they will keep an eye on you – just try and enjoy your last trimester, I wish I was pregnant again! Such an exciting time!!

    First of all congratulations on being pregnant! I can relate totally to the PGP, I had SPD and some days I just couldn’t walk. My back also itched like a *&^%$! My OH would spend hours just scratching my back! I am sure yours is nothing sinister, if they were that worried, they would have seen you immediately!

      Thank you so much! It’s horrible isn’t it – I hate to wish the pregnancy away but I’ll be glad to get back to ‘normal’ after the birth :)
