3 Ways to Brighten a Dark Bedroom
3 Ways to Brighten a Dark Bedroom is in collaboration with Urban Lighting.
Our house is the lightest and brightest house I’ve ever lived in. Every room has large ceiling to floor windows that flood the rooms with natural, bright light.
That is, except our bedroom. It’s the only room in the house that is painted a dark colour, navy blue in this instance.
Because it is so dark, I don’t spend a lot of time in there except at bedtime. Not that I don’t like the room itself, I just prefer brighter spaces and I’d love to spend more time in there relaxing or reading.
So it got me thinking about ways I can brighten the room and make it more of a space I like to be in.
Here are my 3 ways to brighten a dark bedroom:
1. Paint the walls
Often the easiest way to brighten a dark room is to paint the walls a bright white, or pale colour to lift the room. I love white walls and I’d paint the whole house white if I could, but we are renting the house so this option is unfortunately out for us.
If I could only repaint the walls here, this is the kind of look I would go for. White walls give such a lovely, bright blank canvas to any room.
2. Use Clever Lighting
These days, there are so many options available to light a room other than the ceiling light. Explore your options by doing research, browsing Pinterest for home lighting ideas, or better yet visit shops that offer a wide array of lighting options such as Urban Lighting. They offer personalised service to help you figure out the right lighting design for your space.
I browsed their website and spotted these gorgeous Atrium Pendant lights which I love! Aside from adding lighting to the room, they also make a real feature of what is directly below them. I could imagine it hanging over our chest of drawers.
These Aspen Table lamps would also look lovely on our bedside tables. I love how they shine light above and below the shade against the dark walls.
Another easy option is to replace the bulbs in your current lights and lamps with the brightest ones. Just make sure to check their recommended wattage before buying and changing bulbs.
3. Use Mirrors
I’ve been looking for a full floor length mirror for ages but still haven’t found the perfect one. Aside from its actual use, a large mirror instantly brightens any room as it reflects light and just makes the space feel so much bigger.
This is the kind of mirror I would love to have leaning against the side wall of our bedroom and reflecting light all around:
I can’t wait to buy new lighting and find the perfect mirror to add to our bedroom, I really think they will make all the difference in brightening up the space.
