5 Things I Would Love In My Dream Home

5 things I would love in my Dream Home is in collaboration with West Village.

Since we emigrated back to Australia, we’ve been renting our home here. I would so love to buy our forever home and it’s in our plans for 2017. It got me thinking about the things I would love in my dream home.

You know, those things that we may not get but we can dream about!

Dining room and kitchen

I recently found out about West Village. Described as a “visionary re‐imagining of heritage buildings, a bustling retail hub, lively green spaces, eclectic laneways, all creating a diverse precinct that is set to become the beating heart of Brisbane.”

It really sparked my interest because West Village has so many of the things I would love in my dream home and location!

If I lived in West Village, or had an unlimited budget here, these are the 5 things I would love in my dream home:

5 things I would love in my Dream Home

1.  A Swimming Pool

It’s always been a dream of mine to have a house with a pool. I think it’s the dream of a lot of Brits! This is a possibility as many houses in Australia do have swimming pools.

Swimming pool

The Brisbane climate is perfect for spending time outdoors, lounging by the pool and al fresco dining!

2.  A Minimalist look

I drool over Pinterest images of clear, white spaces and wish our house was the same. This is pretty much impossible with two small children! I’d love a home that had big spaces and ample storage though to keep our things tidy and uncluttered.

3.  Lovely local shops and restaurants

More specifically though, shops and restaurants local enough to walk to. When we lived in Sydney we had so much on our doorstep to walk to with the kids. Now we have to drive almost everywhere so I’d love to find somewhere with fun places to walk to nearby.

On the ground level of each West Village apartment block, you can find cafes, restaurants and bars. That’s my ideal setting for my dream home.

4.  A Big Garden

Our two kids love to run around the garden and we also love to entertain. It would be fantastic to have a garden big enough for a deck for dining and a garden to play in.

Of course my dream home would be big enough to host a movie screen too – the whole family would love that!

Outdoor cinema

5.  Light, Bright Space

The house we are currently in is so light and airy. As I work from home and spend so much time here, it’s essential for me to live in a light, bright space.

I’ve lived in dark houses before and it just saps my mood. I really hope to find somewhere that is as bright inside and outside as we are now.

Outdoor eating area

West Village is located 1.1km from Brisbane’s CBD and adjacent to South Bank and its Cultural Precinct. It is an iconic destination that celebrates the much loved culture and heritage of West End.

It is an exciting new destination that’s really changing the face of inner city living, with its unique combination of bars, restaurants and retail stores layered amongst designer homes with parks and pools. It really sets a new benchmark for homes and design in Australia. It’s has everything that I would love in my dream home!

Regardless, I would love to have a bidet/Japanese style toilet. It’s low maintenance compared to a garden, and imagine this – a heated toilet seat on a cold winter’s day, or listening to a soothing song whilst taking a dump after a long day. Laugh, but once you’ve sat on one, you would love it.

  28. Anthea Cornish
    14th March 2017 / 7:55 pm

  29. Meagan
    14th March 2017 / 7:24 pm

A hidden play room for the kids. One thing I loved as a kid was hidey holes. In a home magazine once I saw a kids bookcase open up so the kids could crawl through into the next room which was cordoned off into their own little space. The outside would have a wrap around porch with a fireplace and bar. A floating kitchen with a sink which turns so you can wash up from all angles. Sweeping stairs case designed with gnarled wood to look like a forest, there would be a subtle nature theme throughout the house, secret rooms, opening book cases which contain a reading space inside.

  30. Careen
    14th March 2017 / 2:02 pm

There are a few key things I’d love in my dream home:
    1) A kitchen that is a gathering place that people feel comfortable in
    2) A living area that has collapsible doors onto a deck, bringing the outside in
    3) A garden which I can lovingly nurture with bird feeders to attract all species of birds to!

  31. 14th March 2017 / 12:24 pm

My dream house has a combination of two important things – a great view, preferably of the sea or mountains and total privacy which I think can be really hard to find these days!

  42. Sienna Hines

Where do I start? My dream house would be sustainable with solar panels, naturel light, eco-friendly materials and a. water tank. It will have a beautiful garden with fruit trees, a veggie patch and a couple of chickens. It will also have a beautiful outdoor and indoor entertainment area but the highlight would be the kitchen: a smart kitchen with well thought storage, a double oven to cook beautiful roasts and of course amazing desserts for friends and family. And let’s not forget the kids with a nice playroom and outdoor playground.

    4th March 2017 / 3:13 pm

Ive always wanted a letter “H’ shaped house, the middle has a massive open plan living (kitchen, lounge etc)with a floor to ceiling stone fireplace. this area opens up to the gap at the top of the “H” where the pool, spa, bbq area and large deck is situated, filling the entire gap. Down one of the sides of the “H” i have a games room, kids rooms and bathroom. Down the other side of the “H” is the master suite with an oversized shower that has a seat/ledge to make shaving my legs easier (too scared to wax) a big walk in robe with hanging space/shelving as far as the eye can see. This side of the “H” also has the garage, laundry etc. To the side of the property is my partners “house”, the man cave shed that can accomodate all his dream cars. and I want the house to have those plug in vacuums so i never have to lug a vacuum around again, just the hose piece.

I’ve just bought my dream home (yay), it has the big pool I have always dreamed about and a little tiki bar. My new dream to add to it would be to have a big screen hanging from the wall and a projector so we can have movie nights while floating on pool toys and sipping cocktails!

It would be wonderful to build a the best architecture house for my family and pets, just like Grand Design House series. The house has the last technology, revolutionary eco system and personalised furnitures. It would be luck enough to live in a house designed by Australian’s best known architects. I don’t need to go to holiday anymore because I have the best house in the world. Honestly, I need to spend a lot of time to clean my house and calling my kids and pets. My family is more important than a luxurious house. Home is where the heart is.

I would also love a billiards/games room for myself and the latest automated technology gadgets for the whole house including a splashback in the kitchen which doubles as a smart tv and automated lighting etc. Love toys for adults haha.

The first thing that pops into my mind is a “Batman” secret cave – a room hidden inconspicuously behind a bookshelf. A perfect place to hide my valuables and have a secret getaway location when the household gets a bit hectic!

My mechanic husband also tinkers with his toys at home, so having an outside toilet and shower in our double garage and workshop would be ideal, to keep the inside of our home clean. Polished timber wood floors would be great for both my son and husband who suffer with allergies and being close to the golf club would be ideal we could walk there for coffee and cake, café style meals when we don’t feel like cooking and enjoy the serenity around us. I am sure my daughter would also be delighted going home on the free bus – don’t all kids.

I’ve always wanted a home that is open and comfortable for visitors. A dedicated guest room would be anazing – no more cramming people into a kid’s bedroom or a lounge room on the floor! I’d love a pool and a beautiful garden that can be used for entertaining and fab parties. Finally, heaps of storage, you can never have too many cupboards!!

I know this may sound weird but I’d love a mature, gorgeous huge tree travelling up through the middle of the home, it’s canopy outside. I saw one once on Grand Designs and it was amazing, like always having the outdoors inside. I love trees and nature. I think there would be something magical with it.

I would love in my dream house the ultimate home cinema with lounge chairs and tiered seating and big screen

  130. 1st March 2017 / 11:43 am

Ever since I was a child my dream home had to have several things!
    1) A movie theatre room, complete with soft and comfy reclining chairs and a giant screen!
    2) A swimming pool for splashing around and having some fun when friends come over
    3) A house full of windows so the light could come in. Sunshine always brings me happiness and adds warmth to the home
    4) A state of the art kitchen as I love to cook, bake and entertain for friends and family!
