7 Things that Helped My Blog Grow

I started my blog back in 2013 and updating and decorating my little corner of the internet soon became one of my biggest passions.

Then in late 2015, it also became my job too – and since then it’s taken on an even bigger role in my life.

How is my blog my job?

In a few ways – through my blog, I sell:

  • my own digital products (feel free to check out my shop here) and courses
  • advertising space to brands (either display ads or through sponsored content)
  • consulting services like copywriting, content creation and marketing

I don’t have hundreds of thousands of followers but I do have a beautiful audience of loyal and supportive women who follow my personal journey, read and share my content and connect with me often.

The community I’ve created and the connections with so many other women around the world literally makes my heart sing.

But it didn’t come overnight and has taken me some years to grow my blog to where it is now.

I have a lot of blogging and business mum buddies who ask for my advice on how to grow a blog – whether it’s a personal or business one. Here are the main ways I’ve done it – and if you want me to elaborate on any, just let me know.

How I Grew My Blog

1. I have a clear purpose

My blog has become a place to share everything I’m passionate about, how I live my life and how I want to help others live an amazing life.

In fact, I’ve recently updated this page which goes into a lot more detail about why I write this blog and how it can help you. Click here to read.

I’ve really narrowed down what I want to write and who it’s intended for.

2. I write consistently

Now I’m not talking about the craziness that is “daily blogging” – but I like to write at least one new post each week. Sometimes one, sometimes five. But generally, one.

That way, when people come to see what’s new there is something new.

I’m never short of ideas of what to write and I love to interview and survey my community a couple of times a year to find out what they want more and less of.

3. I ask my community to share my posts

A great way to get my content out into the bigger world has been to proactively ask my readers to share my posts with friends who they think might enjoy it too.

Now, I’ve never had any articles go ‘viral’ and it’s something that’s highly unlikely too. If you’ve been here for a while, you’ll know that whilst I have strong opinions, I’m not particularly provocative!

But it’s been a great way to reach other like-minded women and slowly grow my following.

4. I ask brands to share my posts

When I work with a brand on sponsored content, I encourage them to share my review or article with their followers. It’s another great way to get in front of a new audience and the ones who resonate with what I have to say will hop on over and subscribe for more.

5. I invest in my blog

I spend time, resources and money each and every week in improving my blog, my work processes and my skill set.

So whether it’s an online course on podcasting, SEO or Facebook ads, I’m always reinvesting a little of what I make into making things better.

6. I know my ‘why’ and I stick to it

I changed the name of my blog in 2015 to Love from Mim and purposefully included my name in the title because it will always been a personal blog.

Over the years, I’ve shared many of my different passions and loves but it always comes back to me, my values and what I believe in.

If you’ve read my About section, you’ll already have a clear idea of what I’m about and I really hope this is reflected in the articles and social posts I put out.

7. I love blogging!

As well as having a passion for the content and subjects that I write about, I absolutely love blogging itself!

Since I was young, I always knew that writing was going to be a big part of my life – and I always wanted to work for myself. At that point, 30ish years ago eek, blogs weren’t even a thing. The internet certainly wasn’t.

But I do feel hashtagblessed every day that I get to work from home, doing what I love to pay the bills.

I work bloody hard at it but it’s no ‘effort’ because I love writing and journaling so much.

Ultimately, having passion for what you do with translate into success if you have the opportunity to pursue it. And I’m grateful that I do.
