Oh my goodness last week was a bit of a whirlwind but YES, I won the AusMumpreneur NSW Business Excellence Award!
I had no idea – not even an inkling. In fact, I would have put money on not winning and I was really going for the networking and conference workshops. (Which were amazing btw).
Of course, I was looking forward to a bit of “me time” too and the fancy awards dinner!
I want to say a BIG thank you to Peace Mitchell and Katy Garner for inviting me to attend such a wonderful event. You two rock and you inspire me so much!
The conference was great and I was thrilled to make friends from the get-go.
These girls made an awesome event ten times more amaze. In fact, getting to know them was the biggest highlight of the conference and I’m delighted to have left with such super inspirational and highly talented, life-long friends.
Another highlight was listening to some amazing speakers – self-employed mums and highly successful businesswomen in Australia. It was so motivating and inspiring and I’ve come back with a million and one ideas to move my business forward even further.
I cried through my panel and through my award acceptance speech but what I wanted to say is this:
Why I do what I do
I’ve shared my life as a mum on this blog since June 2013. Originally, it was to share my thoughts on parenting and then as a pregnancy diary when I was expecting baby number two.
After his birth, I started to get approached by some lovely brands who wanted to collaborate with me on product reviews. It was the perfect fit as I’m already an over-sharer and love to bully my friends into loving the same things I love ha ha!
Then, in November 2015 I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. My world shook.
I found therapy in sharing my thoughts but what I didn’t expect was the wealth of support I found from you all – friends, and some strangers, on the internet.
The number of emails, messages, comments, and love I have received from you blows me away.
I’ve been able to connect with other young mums in my position and we’ve shared our journeys.
I’ve helped some of you through times when you’ve found lumps or have experienced symptoms. Most of you have, thankfully, had positive outcomes! In return, you have helped me survive and thrive.
How I turned my Hobby Blog into a Business
When life started to get back to (the new) normal, my blog became more than just personal. More and more brands started to approach me for collaborations and I started to reach out to some myself.
And I would like to take a moment to thank a few of my biggest cheerleaders – brands I adore and who have invested in me in so many ways in the last few years: Tell Me Baby, Storksak, Flo Family Health and BabyBjorn to name just a few.
Influencer marketing is huge these days and it seemed that there was room in the market for me.
For a normal(ish!), everyday mum, not glamorous, just sharing the things that my family loves on my corner of the internet.
So it’s my job now – to write this blog. And as all of the cliches go, I’ve finally found a job that I leap out of bed for. It doesn’t feel like a job because I love every minute of the day I’m at work.
I work from home, I set my own hours and I spend a lot of quality time with my kids.
And whilst I don’t see this job earning me millions of dollars, it has helped me recover from everything I’ve been through. I’ve been able to return to work at my own pace and I couldn’t feel any more thankful for this opportunity.
What does this Award mean for me?
The AusMumpreneneur Award for NSW Business Excellence means so much to me and whilst I know this sounds very cheesy, it’s for you too.
Because without your support, without you reading my posts, commenting and sharing a bit of your life back with me, well this business wouldn’t be a business.
I feel incredibly lucky to be in a position where I can share my life and the things I love and receive compensation for that. VERY lucky.
I hope I can continue to do this for years to come and I’m excited to share some new business ventures with you soon that I really think could help you too. More on that shortly!
THANK YOU. Thank you so much for being my internet friend and for continuing to read my stuff. Even when I get rambly and emotional as I am probably on the verge of doing right now!
Thank you for letting me be self-indulgent.
Thank you for trusting my recommendations and sharing yours with me.
And thank you for forgiving my typos and numerous grammatical errors!!
