An Easter DIY from White Knight

An Easter DIY from White Knight is a collaboration with White Knight Paints.

As my daughter turns four this week (sob!) I’m realising more about how much more she understands these days.

Easter is approaching and there is such a difference in her from last year to now. We’ve been teaching her about the meaning of Easter and she knows there is much more to it than bunnies and chocolate.

She still thinks it should be all about chocolate of course. Can’t say I blame her.

But bunnies too!

I spend hours on Pinterest, searching for Easter ideas from cakes to DIYs to decor to gifts. You can follow my Easter board here:
I have a love/hate relationship with DIY though. I love to be creative and hand make things.

I hate it not being right. I’m such a perfectionist and can take hours to make something that should have taken minutes because I want it to be just so.

Luckly, White Knight came to my rescue this Easter! Pun totally intended.

They kindly sent me their White Knight Easter Hat DIY Kit which has a selection of their beautiful, bright Squirts paints in a hat box full of other goodies to assemble an Easter hat for my daughter!

It’s a collaboration with Bear and Sparrow, an Australian owned, designed & handmade boutique children’s décor business. Together they have come up with a fun project that parents and kids can work together on in creating a lovely hat for the upcoming school Easter parades.

Best of all though – a very comprehensive list of instructions too – much needed to keep my perfectionist tendencies at bay.

So I set about spraying and assembling the lovely hat with my daughter’s help. She requested it in pink, one of her favourite colours.

I love that this DIY set takes away so much of the stress that me, and other parents, face when it comes to DIY.

Some mums relish the chance to use their creativity when it comes to fancy dress or special events at school or day care. I know others whose heart sinks because they’re too short on time or worry that what they come up with won’t be up to scratch.

This Easter, White Knight have taken the stress away. If you can use a pair of scissors and squirt a can of paint, you’re going to ace this!

Plus if you want to get more creative, you can use your artistic flair to really personalise this gorgeous hat with the colours and decorations that your little one loves. This is why mine doesn’t quite look like the official picture. I was using my artistic flair, ok? Yes? Good.

I really love it when something breaks and the friends say don’t worry I’ll fix it, and 12 months later you are still waiting.

Last year I tried to be an A-Team mum and make bunny footprints for Easter with powder instead of getting the decals – big mistake, HUGE! Hubby let the dog in and he went crazy, when the kids came out they were slipping all over the place, they had heaps of fun but made a huge mess – this year I bought decals :)

Worst – trying to make my daughter a robot outfit for book week. In no way did it look like robot. Just a couple of stacked boxes with wonky eyes ????

Best DIY project was creating a monstrous chicken coup from scrap wood. So far It’s held up to our wild Sydney weather so I think i did a good job.

I thought it would be a fun idea to paint a mural on my daughters bedroom wall……but got a little over excited about starting and didn’t prep the room. So, I ended up having to replace the carpet after it wore a tin of red paint.

My worst was an attempt to make an Elsa birthday cake for my niece’s birthday – the online tutorial looked so easy but she ended up looking like a deranged woman! I had to spend a fortune on a professional cake the day before her birthday!

My son decided he wanted rainbow walls. Threw some paint on his ceiling fan and turned it on. He was very pleased with himself. Sadly, his dad and I were not.

My best DIY’s would be painting and stencilling my bedside tables, painting murals for both my daughter’s rooms and restoring and decorating an old suitcase my Mum was going to throw away.

Our floor tiles cracked, my husband bought some very different colour of tiles to replace them. Lucky, our neighbor is a talented handyman and helped my husband to fix them. It was a big DIY lesson to learn from over confidence. Now , he always double checks every DIY project .

My Worst ever DIY project was me as a young hairy and self conscious girl. Mum said I wasn’t allowed to shave, so I saved up all my pocket money and bought home waxing kit. Yep! I wore basket ball shorts and put the wax on, then chickened out.Left the wax on too long and it melted on my thighs :-( To make matters worse, it wouldn’t come off and it wouldn’t wash off. Having had done this at my friends home, I had tissues stuck to the wax between my legs, so I could walk home….. MAJOR FAIL…. EPIC FAIL… FAILED

My best / worst was when I made a shelf by myself. It was my best because I did it all by myself and it actually looked like a shelf, It was my worst because it was uneven so couldn’t hold anything :)

My best worst DIY was when I tried to paint a batman on my sons bedroom wall.. It might have looked like a bat ( a little) lol. I honestly had to fix it, so I bought him a fathead batman wall sticker. Big diy fail!

I tried to sand back a dresser that I had with an electric sander which I have never used before, well, things didn’t go to plan, I was to heavy handed and completely ruined the top, so much so I had to throw the dresser out. Never again.

I sewed a dress for my daughters first birthday, it turned out beautiful especially since it was my first time making anything.

Have done lots of DIY projects over the years. Mostly from items from Op. shops or markets. Best one, I think, was a tatty old metal mirrored table, which I tiled and painted – looks quite like an heirloom now!

Terry aged five wanted a transformer birthday cake. Easy? No. However I managed to create something that could pass as a transformer cake but at the ver last moment it fell on it’s face. After that birthday cakes were easy. I bought them!

Installing a flat pack kitchen, not sure what I was thinking, it’s definitely not as easy as the home renovation TV shows make out. I ended up getting help from my Father-in-law.

I recently sanded back and revarnished our dining room table.
It was covered in texta marks, from 2 over enthusiasic drawers and looked hideous!
It was my first major diy project, and using an electric sander was an interesting experience, but I’m so happy with the result!
