Easy Outfits for Work from Home Mums

These days I’m careful with the money I spend on clothing for myself. The reason is, I spend much of my time working from home, or out and about with the kids. Here I’m sharing my top picks for easy outfits for work from home mums that cross over from week day to weekend.

Sponsored by Blue Bungalow. (affiliate links below).

Blue Bungalow Womens Clothing Review - Love from Mim

My basic wardrobe is very “capsule” these days. It’s made up of a fewer number of pieces that I can mix and match to create a lot of different outfit options.

My colour choices tend to be muted and I keep patterns to a minimum.

Is that boring?

I don’t think so! I’ve never been much into pattern or bold prints and it’s just much harder to match them to other pieces. I’ve nothing against pattern though, there’s a time and place for it for sure.

Over the years, I’ve even reduced my overall clothing colour palette and tend to stick to:

  • Black (probs too much at times)
  • White
  • Grey
  • Khaki
  • Blush
  • Denim

If I want to add a splash of colour, I can easily do this with jewellery, scarves, shoes and other accessories.

And you know what, it makes picking an outfit so simple! I still have my moments of “I have NOTHING to wear” but as a busy work from home mum, I just don’t have the time to spend gazing into my wardrobe and constructing a masterpiece. To be honest I was never very good at putting outfits together anyway, thank goodness for Pinterest.

I love fashion though and I love how I feel when I’m wearing an outfit that makes me feel good, is practical for my lifestyle and is stylish.

I surveyed my fellow work from mums to find out what they wear when they work from home and their preferences in order were:

  1. Something slouchy like joggers
  2. Whatever they could grab from the laundry pile!
  3. Tops and jeans
  4. Nothing – well that would save money and laundry, wouldn’t it?!

One of my favourite stores for women’s fashion, Blue Bungalow, fits that remit perfectly. This post is also a bit of a Blue Bungalow review as I want to share my love for them with you.

About Blue Bungalow

Based in Brisbane but delivering nationally, Blue Bungalow has weekday, weekend and workwear covered.

They’re all about making women feel confident and embracing style regardless of shape or size.

I love their philosophy that it doesn’t matter who you are, how old you are or what your body looks like, they want to help us feel fab!

The range is vast and each product has helpful tips on the body type they best suit – as a guide.

I’ve loved every one of my purchases from Blue Bungalow and I’m sharing some of my recent faves from their current range. They also work as style tips for stay at home mums too:

Blue Bungalow Black and White Stripe Jade Slouch Pants

Two ways to style the Blue Bungalow Black and White Stripe Jade Slouch Pants

Joggers or harem pants matched with a slouchy t-shirt are my go-to for working from home. They’re comfortable and relaxed but also great for school drop offs or running out on an errand.

And basically, you look presentable, but you feel like you’re wearing PJs – so win/win!

These Black and White Stripe Jade Slouch Pants are just $39.95 and available in size 8 to 18.

They have a flexible elasticated waistband and are made from a cotton/elastane mix plus are machine washable so practical too.

I love to wear pants like this either full length, rolled up to ankle length or pulled higher to mid-calf.

The Grey Cotton Long Sleeve Top is so soft and is going to be perfect for layering now we’re moving into cooler months. It’s available in Small, Medium, Large and XL and is available in many other colours.

Here’s more info on the top and pants.

This is another example of a relaxed outfit but that’s particularly suited for moving into Autumn/Winter.

Blue Bungalow Green Easy Wear Cotton Jumper

This Green Easy Wear Cotton Jumper is super soft, cosy and in a beautiful muted green that would suit all skin tones – plus a perfect colour for Autumn too.

Shape-wise – this is the kind of style I’ve avoided for years because…big boobs. Big boobs, high necklines and styles that flare are generally not friends with each other.

An easy fix is to tuck in the front to accentuate your waist and balance a curvy shape.

You can grab this gorgeous 95% cotton jumper here. I’ve paired it with the same bamboo pants but in Black. (available here in Grey)

Even as a work from home mum, there are times when I’ll attend meetings or events Outside. Of. The. Home. Otherwise I can literally go for days without meeting another adult that isn’t at the school gates.

I’m so bored of my own black top/back skinny jeans combo and, as hard as it is, I’m really trying to be more adventurous with colour.

This gorgeous Black Stripe Knit Batwing Dress is the perfect dress for a work day, special event or night out.

Blue Bungalow Black Stripe Knit Batwing Dress

It’s a One Size fits all and its beautiful design is very forgiving but still flattering. As it’s a heavier dress, the slight weight of the material pulls it over curves, rather than ballooning.

It sits just above the knee and is great paired with opaque tights, leggings or skinny jeans, depending on how you want to dress it up or down.

We are heading to the USA in December, so I’d love a comfortable, yet stylish outfit that can be worn on the plane or for a day of sightseeing! I love the NAVY STRIPE COTTON 3/4 SLEEVE TOP, the BLACK BAMBOO WHISPERS CARDIGAN, the BLUE COTTON WASHED OUT PANT and the PEARL ADVENTURE SNEAKER.

I also tend to stick to black – although sometimes I’m daring and go for charcoal and dark grey! So, it’s time I added a bit of colour to my wardrobe! Such a great range at Blue Bungalow, I really like the blue split hem top – comfortable and practical (like me ;) ) and also the falling feathers cotton crew pullover…over blake cupro pants – in black of course!

I would choose the Black Striped Crinkle Cotton Top, as Blue Bungalow seem to understand that while I like to dress well, I have neither the time or the inclination to iron.

I’d choose one of their reversible spotty jackets. That way I could get more wear out of it wearing on the reverse ide for a whole new look without the price tag.

However I love the Navy Textured Cotton Drape Tee Dress for curvy/plus size women because it would enable me to take my fashion look from daytime casual, to office professional, to party perfect! It’s a multi-functioning dress that could be dresses up or down abut also looks flattering!

  37. Renee Perlic
    6th May 2018 / 11:59 am

I would choose the batwing black and white striped dress to wear with tights and boots this winter. It’s a piece that would get a lot of wear on school pick ups and meeting with friends, mon-fri and weekends ect I do wish my wardrobe was smaller so it doesn’t feel so cluttered. I just don’t know how to put styles together. Shopping at Blue Bungalow could make it more simple for me plus I live locally.

  38. 6th May 2018 / 8:21 am

BB is dangerous! I’ll have one of everything!

Okay, I’ve narrowed it to three: the black V collar shirt (love the length – handy for layering); the gingham linen shirt dress (because navy + shirt dress + abstract pattern = LOVE); and, the red jayce long puffer best (because red + long + puffer = Melbourne winter sorted).

    Thanks for hosting the comp!

I love the BLACK MAYLOU TIE WAIST DRESS

  40. Nicole Williams

  41. Kimba Morgan
    5th May 2018 / 11:59 pm

OMG so much,I could see me wearing, but a personal favourite would have to be the Black Cotton sleeved side tie dress, sure it’s a LBT but with a unique twist the back,is Devine, so not boring! I’d wear it with sandals and a statement necklace in Summer and for Winter, tights and ankle boots ♥️

  42. Sally Baker
    5th May 2018 / 6:38 pm

I love the black stripe curve dress and the black bamboo Tara tank dress. Both are super for Queensland weather.

OMG all the slouchy elastic waist pants for me. At 32 weeks with my third (and likely final) I’m not buying anything maternity and I literally have. Itching to wear. I def need some postpartum things though and I’m loving that what will work is actually on trend. Off to go virtual shop some more over there right now!

I normally don’t do dresses, but I love the look of the Harper long sleeve cotton dress. It looks great to wear around the house, but add a simple white jacket and you’re ready to go to town.

  46. Kylie Travis
    5th May 2018 / 4:41 pm

The ‘PINK TRI TONE KNIT JUMPER’ from the lovely Blue Bungalow! I adore anything with pink and this looks perfect for Autumn weather, whether it’s doing the school run or going out to dinner! :-)

  47. Jordana Hodgetts
    5th May 2018 / 3:48 pm

I would pick the ‘wash raw denim skinny jeans’ and pair them with the ‘black spotty cotton crew jumper’. As an outfit this may sound super plain/uninteresting to the average person, but not to me!
Over the last three years I have either been pregnant or breastfeeding, so my wardrobe has been severely limited with what I can wear. Maternity clothes, leggings, and stripes as far as the eye can see!
    I haven’t worn ‘normal’ jeans since 2016!
I’m still breastfeeding now, and as much as I love feeding my baby and the connection we have – I am very much looking forward to the day where I can dress for myself and not for easy boob access! This would be a great starter outfit for me

  48. Stephanie V
    5th May 2018 / 3:34 pm

I adore the entire range on the blue bungalow website. My pick would be beige stripe cotton knit top.
I find it hard to find sleeves that flatter my upper arms and it’s one of the many items from blue bungalow which would make me feel fabulous and confident .
It would be an amazing peice to have in my wardrobe for winter.

  49. Tahlia O'Connell
    5th May 2018 / 3:30 pm

Bamboo pocket pants! I love these and so easy with a tribe if six kids

  50. Samara McRae
    5th May 2018 / 3:29 pm

I love the HARPER GREY L/S COTTON DRESS. It’s gorgeous and the perfect running around dress to wear. It’s casual yet stylish and pretty.

  52. Wendy Hatton
    5th May 2018 / 2:31 pm

Love the look of the Bamboo Pocket Pants- soft and comfortable just like me! Black to start with and if I really like them then Navy as well. Topped with a Charcoal Lilly Sleeved Top, just because its lovely. It also looks practical and feminine and would certainly lighten up my day.

  53. 4th May 2018 / 8:58 pm

Now that Im a stay at home Mum Ive had to totally rethink my wardrobe, the office clothes are packed away and I need more casual and pretty clothes in my wardrobe. You are rocking those slouch pants, they look so comfy but cute and cool, I need a pair!

  54. Paula H
    4th May 2018 / 7:58 am

I’m really into navy blue at the moment and love that Blue Bungalow has a petite range for little weeds like me hahaha. I’d pick the Blake Navy Cupro Pants because they look so comfy……and they’re my colour :)
