These days I’m careful with the money I spend on clothing for myself. The reason is, I spend much of my time working from home, or out and about with the kids. Here I’m sharing my top picks for easy outfits for work from home mums that cross over from week day to weekend.
Sponsored by Blue Bungalow. (affiliate links below).
My basic wardrobe is very “capsule” these days. It’s made up of a fewer number of pieces that I can mix and match to create a lot of different outfit options.
My colour choices tend to be muted and I keep patterns to a minimum.
Is that boring?
I don’t think so! I’ve never been much into pattern or bold prints and it’s just much harder to match them to other pieces. I’ve nothing against pattern though, there’s a time and place for it for sure.
Over the years, I’ve even reduced my overall clothing colour palette and tend to stick to:
- Black (probs too much at times)
If I want to add a splash of colour, I can easily do this with jewellery, scarves, shoes and other accessories.
And you know what, it makes picking an outfit so simple! I still have my moments of “I have NOTHING to wear” but as a busy work from home mum, I just don’t have the time to spend gazing into my wardrobe and constructing a masterpiece. To be honest I was never very good at putting outfits together anyway, thank goodness for Pinterest.
I love fashion though and I love how I feel when I’m wearing an outfit that makes me feel good, is practical for my lifestyle and is stylish.
I surveyed my fellow work from mums to find out what they wear when they work from home and their preferences in order were:
- Something slouchy like joggers
- Whatever they could grab from the laundry pile!
- Tops and jeans
- Nothing – well that would save money and laundry, wouldn’t it?!
One of my favourite stores for women’s fashion, Blue Bungalow, fits that remit perfectly. This post is also a bit of a Blue Bungalow review as I want to share my love for them with you.
About Blue Bungalow
Based in Brisbane but delivering nationally, Blue Bungalow has weekday, weekend and workwear covered.
They’re all about making women feel confident and embracing style regardless of shape or size.
I love their philosophy that it doesn’t matter who you are, how old you are or what your body looks like, they want to help us feel fab!
The range is vast and each product has helpful tips on the body type they best suit – as a guide.
I’ve loved every one of my purchases from Blue Bungalow and I’m sharing some of my recent faves from their current range. They also work as style tips for stay at home mums too:
Easy Outfits for Work from Home Mums Style from Blue Bungalow
Joggers or harem pants matched with a slouchy t-shirt are my go-to for working from home. They’re comfortable and relaxed but also great for school drop offs or running out on an errand.
And basically, you look presentable, but you feel like you’re wearing PJs – so win/win!
These Black and White Stripe Jade Slouch Pants are just $39.95 and available in size 8 to 18.
They have a flexible elasticated waistband and are made from a cotton/elastane mix plus are machine washable so practical too.
I love to wear pants like this either full length, rolled up to ankle length or pulled higher to mid-calf.
The Grey Cotton Long Sleeve Top is so soft and is going to be perfect for layering now we’re moving into cooler months. It’s available in Small, Medium, Large and XL and is available in many other colours.
This is another example of a relaxed outfit but that’s particularly suited for moving into Autumn/Winter.
This Green Easy Wear Cotton Jumper is super soft, cosy and in a beautiful muted green that would suit all skin tones – plus a perfect colour for Autumn too.
Shape-wise – this is the kind of style I’ve avoided for years because…big boobs. Big boobs, high necklines and styles that flare are generally not friends with each other.
An easy fix is to tuck in the front to accentuate your waist and balance a curvy shape.
Even as a work from home mum, there are times when I’ll attend meetings or events Outside. Of. The. Home. Otherwise I can literally go for days without meeting another adult that isn’t at the school gates.
I’m so bored of my own black top/back skinny jeans combo and, as hard as it is, I’m really trying to be more adventurous with colour.
This gorgeous Black Stripe Knit Batwing Dress is the perfect dress for a work day, special event or night out.
It’s a One Size fits all and its beautiful design is very forgiving but still flattering. As it’s a heavier dress, the slight weight of the material pulls it over curves, rather than ballooning.
It sits just above the knee and is great paired with opaque tights, leggings or skinny jeans, depending on how you want to dress it up or down.
If you’re looking for some beautiful pieces to add to your Autumn/Winter capsule wardrobe essentials, you will love Blue Bungalow.
The range is so affordable and perfect if you are looking for outfits that can easily transition from working from home to the school run to weekend wear.
