In this Ovolo Woolloomooloo Hotel review I share information about the hotel’s accommodation, service, facilities and the local area. (Be warned, lots of pics!)wooll
Last weekend the family headed to Sydney for the day and we decided to make a weekend of it, staying at the Ovolo Hotel Sydney in Woolloomooloo. It’s a beautiful Sydney boutique hotel and I think used to be called the Blue Sydney. They kindly offered us a media rate for our stay.

The hotel had a refurb about 18 months ago and looks so different to the last time I saw it. Friends used to rent an apartment in the same complex so I’m really familiar with the area.
In fact, the reason for our trip to Sydney was to celebrate them getting married recently!
Review of Ovolo Woolloomooloo Hotel
Located on Cowper Wharf Road, the Ovolo Hotel Woolloomooloo is a little bit of boutique luxury. Described on the website as where “heritage meets modern luxury”, I can’t think of a more fitting description. The Woolloomooloo Wharf is beautiful.
The hotel boasts a prime location, very accessible to the CBD and other Sydney attractions. It’s walking distance from the Domain and is set on the tranquility of the wharf.
We opted for a Deluxaroo Double Double which more than accommodated my husband and I in one bed and my daughter in the other. There was ample space in the room for my son’s travel cot too. If fact, the room is huge!
The bathroom had both a bath and large shower and there was plenty of storage and hanging space, with huge fluffy towels for the whole family.
The complimentary mini bar is restocked daily. Although the kids were much more excited about the (also complimentary) Loot Bag and pounced on it as soon as we got into the room!
Our view, over Woolloomooloo and Potts Point was peaceful and despite being in such a central location, we heard no noise from outside or the corridors at night. Always a bonus when travelling with kids!
We chose to stay at this hotel because the party I went to was at the Tilbury Hotel opposite. So in 60 seconds I was door to door!
Also opposite is Sienna Marina, one of our favourite Italian restaurants in Sydney and some other Woolloomooloo restaurants. We’ve eaten there many times and I highly recommend them for both the food and service.
Food and Drink…
…was plentiful! We ordered room service in the evening which arrived super quickly and was delicious. Another bonus of booking at Ovolo is Happy Hour! Between 5.30pm and 6.30pm, drinks on the HH menu are free. I will warn you, although the bar wasn’t busy and was very well staffed, most guests ordered cocktails which definitely slowed down service a little. That said, those cocktails did look delish!
In the morning, the family headed down for breakfast and our friend joined us too. There were plenty of tables to choose from and my family enjoyed our complimentary continental breakfast before heading back to Sydney.
We had parked at the hotel over night and our car was brought to the front of the hotel for us, which saved carrying our many, many bags and kids’ things. Always a big help for a busy family!
Parking costs $55 per night at Ovolo Woolloomooloo which I consider to be pretty hefty however Woolloomooloo parking is always a struggle. I put that down to the Woolloomoo wharf hotel prime location and possibly a limited number of spaces available perhaps.
Our Favourite Part of the Ovolo Woolloomooloo Hotel
For me, I loved our rooms’ colourful quirks and this is echoed throughout the hotel.
As well as that, every staff member we encountered was incredibly helpful and cheerful. The service we received was exceptional and we would definitely stay at Ovolo Woolloomooloo again in the future.
As well as suiting our family’s needs, the hotel would be perfect for a romantic getaway (I wish) or a weekend with friends.
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading my Ovolo Woolloomooloo Hotel Hotel review – let me know if you stay there If you’re looking for some special Woolloomooloo accommodation, we would definitely recommend the Ovolo.

It’s unlikely we will be able to afford the time or time off for an overseas holiday this year. Instead we’re going to try and have a few mini weekend breaks. Our Ovolo Woolloomooloo review stay was the perfect start to that!
