If you’re looking for planner decorating for beginners tips or new planner decoration ideas, you’re in the right place!
I knew nothing about planner decoration until a few years back and then it changed everything for me and how much more organised I became. Plus, it made using my planner a joy and even more fun.
As well as that, my decorating planner time is also my me-time! It’s therapy and really helps me to relax and get creative at the same time.
Here are some of my favourite planner decorating ideas:

10 Planner Decoration Ideas
1. Planner Stickers
Whether you’re using a weekly planner (like my Erin Condren), a notebook or bullet journal, stickers are a quick and easy way to decorate your planner!
They can add pretty designs but also help you to arrange your plans in a way that helps you be more productive.

Planner decorating for beginners with stickers could be both functional and decorative and there are many available to purchase to help you make your planner work for you.

2. Washi Tape
Washi Tape can add a lovely artistic flair to your planning and can help break up days, weeks and particular events.
Washi can also be very practical – planners add washi tape to their ring-bound pages to prevent them from tearing.
3. Themes
Taking the time to choose colours, designs and even creating weekly themes in my planner is so fun and uplifting!
I love to have themed week decorating planner pages on my birthday, Christmas and other major events throughout the year. I also love to have colour themes sometimes, like a rainbow theme.
4. Stamps
Stamps add a whole other layer of prettiness to your planner. They can be functional too but they’re another way to add your own creative flair to your planning.
The great thing about stamps is that they don’t add any weight to your planner at all, as stickers do. You can also continue reusing them time and time again and just repurchase ink when you need to.
5. Pens
Pen options on the market now probably outnumber the planner options! Generally, it takes a little bit of trial and error before you find the perfect pen for you but when you do, you can use them to decorate your planner or journal.
Pens are great to colour code your plans as well as decorate your planner.
My ultimate pen of choice is the Pilot FriXion and I mainly stick to it in Black but you can get many different colours.
You can buy Frixion pens online here.
Other popular pens include more from the Pilot range, gel pens, Staedler fine-liners, Sharpies and standard ballpoint pens and pencils!
6. Sticky Notes
If your events, To Dos and plans are subject to change, sticky notes are perfect because they’re movable.
You can move the notes around between days and weeks before committing to a definite date and writing it in with pen.
Sticky notes also come in many different shapes and sizes – page flags are great for smaller notes or highlighting particular days or weeks.
7. Quotes
If you have some favourite quotes for staying organised, happy or productive, you can write or stick these into your planner! They’ll act as a lovely reminder to keep on track and add even more positivity into your day.
8. Personalised Covers
Many planners have interchangeable covers that can be personalised too, such as the Erin Condren LifePlanner. You might also decorate the outside of your planners, front and back, to make it even more special and encourage you to use it more.

9. Dashboards
These can be either permanent or snap-in and even permanent dashboards can be modified and personalised sometimes.
10. Charms
Why not decorate the outside, as well as the inside, of your planner!
Planner charms can be a beautiful way of personalising your planner too. They’re available in fun designs and can be custom made just for you.
I hope my planner decoration ideas have inspired you too!
