You might like to start either a personal or a business-related blog. Or it could be a combination of both.
Some blogs are ran by just one person and others are a collection of many content contributors.
Here are 5 reasons to start a blog today:
1. As as online journal
I’m a big fan of planning on paper but, these days, a lot of journaling is done online.
If you don’t like to carry around a diary in your bag, or keeping it under lock and key at home, blogs provide your own online record of whatever it is you want to say.
You might choose to keep your blog under wraps or share it with the world. That’s your choice as you decide your own blogs privacy settings.
You can blog on-the-go, anywhere too – from your desktop to your tablet to your smartphone. On the train, the beach or from your own bed! Here is where I blog from.
2. Because writing is therapeutic
Just as talking through your problems with your best friend can clear your mind of clutter or negative thoughts, so blogging can too.
Sometimes simply writing down what’s bothering you, or exciting you, can clear your mind and be enough. Having the option to share those thoughts with the world and start an online conversation might be one step even better.
For me, I chose to share my recent breast cancer diagnosis on my blog. It gave me the opportunity to tell my story and connect with other young mums undergoing a similar journey.

3. …you can track a Journey
Are you on a mission to get fit? Or lose weight? Are you pregnant?
Blogging is a great way of keeping an online record of a journey – something you can keep forever and reflect back on to see how far you’ve come.
One of the reasons I started blogging was to record my second pregnancy. It became a lovely online diary of my experience and I love reading those posts back now.
4. You make Friends
The older we get, sometimes the harder it is to meet and make good friends. Blogging is a great way to start an online conversation with like-minded people.
Find and converse with other bloggers within your niche, be it Fitness, Fashion, Parenting or more. Support other bloggers, read their posts, interact with them on social media and build up a network of blogging buddies.
5. To promote your business
Perhaps you’re a small business owner or even work for a large organisation. A commercial blog is a great place to communicate your messages to your customers or prospective customers.
You can showcase a product range or discuss your service and promote it to a wide online audience with ease.
A blog is a constantly evolving online medium, if you want it to be. I love my blog and wish I’d started blogging years earlier.
I’ve finally found a hobby I LOVE that has turned into my full-time job!
I hope you’ve found my reasons to start a blog helpful.
