Tackling Hair Loss Post Pregnancy

Tackling Hair Loss Post Pregnancy

There have been a few occasions in my life when I’ve gone through periods of losing my hair; stressful times and also tackling hair loss post pregnancy after the birth of my daughter.  It isn’t a subject I particularly relish talking about – well, I’m sure anyone who has experienced it feels that way too.

However, as I’m now at the 9 week post partum stage with my second baby, I’m starting to notice the first signs of post pregnancy hair loss already.  I think after my first baby it really hit me around the 4 month mark.

This time around, I’m more prepared psychologically to deal with it but I also intend to be more proactive, which is why I’ve been speaking to the people at Nourkrin.

Nourkrin Post Pregnancy tablets are scientifically formulated to help post partum women support the maintenance of normal healthy hair.  So I’m hoping that by taking them, I’ll avoid losing the amount of hair I did post pregnancy last time.  According to Nourkrin, 40-50% of new mums experience hair loss after giving birth so I’m not alone.

During my pregnancy my hair hardly shed at all – it was lovely and thick and one of the reasons I loved being pregnant!

I suffered from some iron deficiency during my pregnancy and have done post partum, so I’m also making a concerted effort to eat more iron-rich foods and to take my supplements.  The Nourkrin Post Pregnancy tablets contain Marilex, Iron and Biotin and I need to take 1 per day.

I’m grateful that the pregnancy hormones that dried my hair out are still hanging around so I can get away with only washing my hair twice per week.  I think this helps as I’m not blow-drying or brushing it too much to damage it or increase hair fall.

In fact, I’m so busy with 2 children that I simply tie it up in the morning and leave it that way until bedtime!

Nourkrin also kindly sent me a bottle of their Nourkrin Shampoo & Scalp Cleanser which helps to protect the hair follicle and increase volume – sounds good to me!

I’ve started taking the tablets today and will use the shampoo from next time I wash my hair.  I’ll let you know how I get on and if I see a difference in the amount of hair I’ve started losing!

Have you been tackling hair loss post pregnancy?  How did you manage it?

*** UPDATE *** I have temporarily stopped taking these tablets as realised they are not to be taken when breastfeeding.  I will be resuming when I’ve finished breastfeeding :) ***

I’m now 13 weeks post partum and starting to get a certain level of hair loss – when I brush my hair A LOT more hair comes out now! I’m not worried too much about it, having said that I don’t want it to continue for too long.

It felt like I lost half my hair after pregnancy. I had read that it was normal, just losing the hair you didn’t shed during pregnancy. My hair was gorgeous during pregnancy and is now back to its normal, thin self, sadly. It didn’t occur to me that I could try to stop it. Let us know how you get on.

It is normal but it’s still upsetting isn’t it? Hoping these supplements help a bit definitely :)
