Every day I’m asked about the essential equipment and tools to make planner stickers. It’s one of the main reasons I started teaching others how to make planner stickers at home – so I could share all of my tips and knowledge.
If you’re wondering what do I need to make planner stickers for journals, I have you covered here.
When it comes to tools and resources, there are a few key things you need to have before you get started. Here’s the basic list, and I’ll share more about how you can find out the exact products I use when I’m making stickers for my 5-star sticker shop.

Tools & Equipment For Making Planner Stickers
1. Computer or Laptop and Design Software
Bear in mind that the design software you use may slow down your computer – so it needs to be a fairly fast machine.
For the software, I love to use both Silhouette Studio and Cricut Design Space – although I use Silhouette Studio the most for making planner and diary stickers. (Note: you can still design your stickers in Silhouette and print and cut with a Circut! I teach this here).
You could also use Canva, Photoshop or other design software.
My preference for designing stickers is Silhouette Studio as there is SO much choice to make multiple stickers and designs. Even if you have a Cricut, you can still design your stickers in the free version of Silhouette Studio and then print and cut them with your Cricut. I teach this in my course.
2. Printer
When it comes to a printer you choose, I recommend researching what eBay and Amazon have available. You don’t need to spend a fortune on a printer either and an inkjet or laser will do the job :)
A colour printer is best, of course. I love my Canon printer and it cost around $60. Check out Canon printers here.
3. Cutting Machine
If you don’t already have a cutting machine, I’d recommend either a Silhouette or Cricut. Of course, you could cut your stickers with scissors or a crafting knife, if you have time.
I think the Silhouette Portrait is a great option for those starting out whilst bigger models are available too. I love how compact the Portrait is.
You can buy a Silhouette Portrait here.
Your second option is a Cricut.
You can buy a Cricut here. You can also buy a Cricut machine here.
You could also use scissors or a crafting knife, if you’re not ready to invest in a sticker making machine for cutting.
4. Sticker Paper
I tested a LOT of different sticker papers in the early days and when I found the ones I loved, I bought a bulk order of them to save money. Amazon and eBay are great places to start and you can google sticker paper manufacturers to request samples too.
For printing quick stickers for yourself, or even to manage your sticker shop postage labels, the Munbyn Bluetooth thermal printer looks like a fun and easy option.
